To close the year on a high note, Bangor University Canoe Club students participated in an intensive 16-hour Outdoor First Aid Course led by Allan Shaw. Over two action-packed days, the students gained essential skills to handle emergencies in challenging outdoor environments, with a particular focus on water-related incidents.
Given the nature of canoeing and water sports, Allan placed extra emphasis on critical topics such as:
These tailored elements ensured the training addressed the real risks faced by canoe enthusiasts, equipping them with both the skills and confidence to act swiftly in emergencies.
Throughout the two days, students engaged in hands-on exercises and realistic scenarios, simulating common outdoor accidents and water-related emergencies. By practising with authentic equipment and under Allan’s expert guidance, participants learned how to stay calm under pressure and deliver life-saving aid when it matters most.
The course not only enhanced the students’ technical knowledge but also boosted their confidence in handling emergencies. Whether on campus or out on the water, these students are now better prepared to ensure safety for themselves and their peers.
