Basic Life Support First Aid Course at
Burscough Neuro Physiotherapy

An engaging and informative course covering the basics of Life Support First Aid

Introduction to Basic Life Support First Aid

Understanding Basic Life Support (BLS) is crucial for everyone. Whether you are a healthcare professional or someone who simply wants to be prepared for emergencies, BLS skills can save lives. At Allan Shaw Experience First Aid, we aim to provide comprehensive, engaging, and practical BLS training. Our recent course at Burscough Neuro Physiotherapy Centre exemplifies this commitment.

Basic Life Support Course at Burscough Neuro Physiotherapy Centre

Recently, I delivered a Basic Life Support (BLS) course for physiotherapists, nursing, and administration staff at Burscough Neuro Physiotherapy Centre in Burscough, Lancashire. This is the second course I have conducted for them, and it was a memorable experience.

Fun and Interactive Start

The course began with a fun, card sort activity. We covered common ailments, injuries, and treatments. This activity divided the staff into two teams, sparking intense competition to see which team could get the most correct answers. It was a lively start that set the tone for the rest of the session.

Evaluating Casualties and Safe Airway Position

Next, we covered casualty evaluation and the safe airway position. Learning how to put someone on their side to ensure they can breathe better is vital. The participants practiced these skills with enthusiasm, understanding the importance of quick and correct action in emergencies.

Hands-On CPR and Defibrillation Training

The session then moved to hands-on CPR and defibrillation training. We undertook three stages of CPR, allowing the staff to practice on male and female dummies of various sizes, including babies. Each participant was given a dummy to practice breathing techniques, both mouth-to-nose and mouth-to-mouth. Most participants had never seen the mouth-to-nose before.

Diverse Defibrillator Practice

We then introduced seven different kinds of defibrillators, including one in Spanish to mix it up a bit. This variety ensured that participants could handle any defibrillator they might encounter in real life. The practice was engaging and educational, providing valuable hands-on experience.

Mental Health Support

We concluded the session with a discussion on mental health support. It’s essential to recognise the emotional impact of providing first aid, especially when outcomes are not as hoped. This discussion emphasised the importance of mental well-being for first responders.

Feedback and Certification

Certificates were promptly sent out after the course. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, including a review from the business owner, Jack Moulton. He said, “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Allan for providing our team with a very enjoyable first aid/basic life support training session. Fantastic knowledge and experience with the ability to keep us all entertained and engaged throughout. Thank you, Allan!”
