At Allan Shaw Experience First Aid, we believe learning never stops – especially when it comes to saving lives. That’s why we were delighted to deliver a Paediatric and Emergency First Aid at Work course to the dedicated teaching and support staff of Banks St Stephen’s Church of England Primary School in Southport.
This hands-on training session was tailored to meet the needs of school staff who are responsible for the care and wellbeing of children. From playground tumbles to life-threatening emergencies, it’s essential that those on the front line are fully equipped with the knowledge and confidence to act quickly.
Our course covered a range of child-specific emergencies, ensuring that participants knew how to recognise and respond to:
Signs and symptoms of meningitis
How to manage bumps, bruises, sprains and minor injuries
Dealing with serious bleeds and fractures
We also discussed how childhood illnesses can escalate quickly and the importance of early intervention, especially in busy school environments.
A vital part of the course was our CPR training, where staff practised resuscitation techniques using realistic baby, child and adult manikins. We also demonstrated how to use various types of defibrillators (AEDs), reinforcing confidence in using the equipment available in most public buildings and schools.
Hands-on, scenario-based learning helped reinforce the correct procedures for:
Performing chest compressions on different age groups
Placing defibrillator pads correctly
Remaining calm and focused under pressure
Schools are dynamic places where anything can happen – and fast. Having trained first aiders on site who are skilled in both paediatric and adult emergency response is more than a regulatory requirement; it’s a matter of safeguarding lives.
This course not only meets Ofsted and workplace standards, but also empowers staff with the ability to:
React quickly and appropriately in emergencies
Minimise risk and injury severity
Support pupils with medical needs more effectively
We’re proud to provide Paediatric and Emergency First Aid at Work training across Southport and the wider Merseyside area. Whether you’re a school, nursery, workplace or community group, we tailor every course to suit your environment and your people.
