Outdoor First Aid Training in Shropshire with Bushcraft Instructors

Delivering Real-World First Aid in the Wild - With Trusted Tier 1 Partners Spirited Adventure

Allan recently travelled to Shropshire to deliver a two-day outdoor first aid course at Spirited Adventure.

This was no ordinary classroom-based course. It was a fully immersive, residential experience set deep in the woods.

Participants included experienced bushcraft instructors from across the UK, alongside individuals with military backgrounds. This created a highly practical and focused learning environment.

Training Beyond the Classroom

The course was designed to reflect real-life scenarios.

Training continued into the evening, with participants working in low-light woodland conditions. The group then bivvied overnight on-site, reinforcing the realities of outdoor environments.

This approach ensured that every skill learned was grounded in realism and practical application.

Key First Aid Skills Covered

While the course followed the full 16-hour first aid syllabus, special attention was given to scenarios most relevant to remote and outdoor settings:

  • Managing catastrophic bleeds

  • Treating burn injuries

  • Handling snake bites

  • Effective wound cleaning and infection prevention

These topics were chosen specifically to match the risks faced in bushcraft and wilderness environments.

What Participants Said

Feedback from the course was exceptional:

“Very real world scenarios & innovative solutions to tackle them.”

“What a legend. Allan Shaw. This was absolutely brilliant.”

“Allan was absolutely sensational. A brilliant instructor with an incredible amount of background knowledge.”

Final Thoughts

Outdoor first aid requires far more than simply understanding theory. It demands clear thinking under pressure, adaptability in unpredictable environments, and the confidence to act when it matters most.

This course was designed to bridge the gap between knowledge and real-world application. By training in woodland conditions, working into darkness, and experiencing an overnight bivvy, participants developed skills they can rely on in genuine emergency situations.

Importantly, all attendees left with a recognised 16-hour Outdoor First Aid certification, giving them both the practical competence and the formal qualification required for their work.

Whether you are a bushcraft instructor, outdoor leader, or simply spend extended time in remote environments, this level of training ensures you are properly prepared, not just qualified on paper, but capable in reality.
