Health and childcare staff from Wirral MET recently attended an Emergency First Aid at Work course delivered by Allan. This training equipped them with essential first aid skills they could use in emergencies and share with their students. The day combined hands-on practice with insightful discussions, leaving participants feeling confident and well-prepared.
The course covered crucial first aid topics, starting with the recovery position. Participants learned how to place a casualty on their side to keep airways open and prevent choking.
CPR was a major focus, with Allan guiding the group through compressions and rescue breaths. Using realistic manikins, the staff practised techniques for adults and children. They also gained experience with Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs), learning how to operate them safely and effectively.
A unique aspect of this course was its focus on teaching first aid skills to others. Allan encouraged the group to think about how they could pass on their knowledge to students in their care. By empowering others, the staff can help create safer environments both in the classroom and beyond.
Allan’s teaching style stood out for its clarity and engagement. Participants praised his ability to make complex topics easy to understand. Feedback from the session included:
“Allan is an amazing teacher. I learnt so much.”
“Allan is very knowledgeable and approachable.”
“Allan should be teaching teacher education. He is so skilful at getting information across.”
The positive energy in the room made learning enjoyable and left a lasting impression on the attendees.
