Allan believes wholeheartedly in the value of continuing professional development. Over the past year, he has attended numerous courses with different providers, successfully completing both a First Responder qualification and a course in administering medicine.

Wilderness Expedition Medicine at Glenmore Lodge

In the last week, Allan travelled to the Scottish Highlands to attend the renowned Glenmore Lodge, where he undertook a seven‑day Wilderness Expedition Medicine course.

It was an intensive programme combining:

  • Classroom learning: Seven days of lectures and workshops covering advanced medical topics.

  • Outdoor practice: Practical exercises in cold, dark, and demanding conditions to simulate real emergencies.

  • Capstone simulation: A full‑scale mass casualty exercise, including search and rescue operations, construction of a casualty station, and the evacuation of multiple casualties under arduous conditions.

Expert Faculty & Diverse Cohort

The course was delivered by doctors and medics with global experience, ensuring world‑class instruction. Allan trained alongside a diverse group of candidates, including:

  • Doctors

  • Mountain rescue teams

  • Fire personnel

  • Outdoor instructors

Course Content

  • Medications and contraindications

  • Decompressing chest wounds

  • Hypothermia and hyperthermia management

  • Long‑term casualty care

  • Altitude illnesses

  • Drowning response

  • Care of the dead and dying
